[ABOUT]
[ABOUT]
Factory Works is an architecture and design studio founded by Paul Humphries, an architect educated at The Bartlett School of Architecture and The Architectural Association, London. Having worked internationally across architecture and design, Paul established the practice to bring together disciplines of spatial design, product design, and material research under a single, collaborative framework.
The studio’s work spans residential, cultural, and object design, with a focus on context, material, and form. Projects move fluidly between drawing and making, between technology and craft, embodying a belief that the design process is both analytical and expressive. Each project begins with a study of place and history, a search for narrative and meaning refined through experimentation and precise execution.
Factory Works operates at the intersection of architecture, furniture, and graphic design, exploring how these practices inform one another. Drawing is central to this process, not only as a means of representation but as a method of thinking and refinement. The studio seeks clarity through iteration, distilling complex ideas into simple, functional forms.
Factory Works acknowledges production as a central part of creative practice. To produce consistently is to stay engaged, to refine through repetition, and to learn through making. The studio embraces technology as a tool that supports this process, enabling systems that serve both the work and the creator. In this way, production becomes an act of craft as much as output, balancing efficiency with expression.
Core to the practice is the belief that design should balance innovation and permanence. Technology is embraced as a tool for progress, but craft remains the measure of quality. Every piece, whether a building, object, or system, is defined by its relationship to light, material, and detail.
Factory Works aims to create work that is contextual yet contemporary, expressive yet restrained, architecture and design that speak quietly but with purpose, precision, and depth.
